In FluffSim , you are the owner of a fluffy pony. These fluffy ponies "fluffies" are expendable "pets" that are very fragile and unintelligent, two traits that often lead to fatality or other various dangerous situations. The fictional world that these fluffies reside in ties similar features to the real-world, with various objects and features being those seen in real homes, such as televisions, electric fans, and more.

The game itself is a physics-based sandbox game where the owner, being the player, can care for fluffies, furnish the room typically called the "saferoom" , and generally spawn or create whatever the player desires within the capabilities of the game.

Caring for a fluffy is fairly simple, ranging from giving one food and water, cleaning up messes and training them to use a litter box, and keeping them happy and healthy. However, the game also features the ability to not care for the fluffies, resulting in somewhat sadistic outcomes. FluffSim takes inspiration from the community of Fluffybooru , an image booru where users post art and literature based around the care or abuse of fluffy ponies, with there being more of the latter.

The community-developed lore around the creation, traits, and treatment of fluffies describes fluffies as bio-toys developed by the fictional company " Hasbio ", in which an animal-rights group released the bio-toys from the development facility.
