What do i do?!? I read somewhere that i can use a disk to restore back to the way it was when i bought it, but i need to get all my data off and backed up and saved before getting disk from dell!! HElp me please! I dont want to lose everything! I am at my wits end!
First of all All is not lost - by any means :emotion You'll need to be able to boot into Safe Mode see below to do that of course - given that you can't login normally :emotion Can I ask why you use a password btw? Do you take the laptop 'on the road', or does someone else use it as well?
I'm not saying it's wrong to use a password of course. In many circumstances But if you only use the laptop at home, and if you're the only user You can only restore the system to its factory settings, if you still have a 'Recovery' partition on the hard drive?
If it's still there, you can access it during the boot-up sequence , by pressing CTRL then F11, and releasing both keys at the same time. So you need to be a bit lucky for this to work, since if you do not have this malware issue, it could be something else. A bart PE disk with an external registry editor would be a better solution, since you can SEE the registry entry, but most people are not going to have this around,.
I'd come across the suggestion of the Bart PE disk and am going to look into it anyway, simply because it would be darn handy to have in my doctor's kit. It seems like I get more and more requests for help as time goes on. The curse of being vaguely competent with comps is that you get dragged into neverending free tech support.
